 in Burnaby, B.C said a morning explosion at a community centre was intentionally caused by an incendiary device. No deaths or injuries were reported but the doorway to the centre received damage and several bricks in the front were knocked off.

Suspected insurgents killed four members of Iraq’s security forces and a city engineer. All shootings were similar in using silencers and occurred within an hour of each, which suggested a coordinated campaign against security officials and government workers. No one immediately claimed responsibility.

A security intelligence office was targeted by a suicide car bomber. One person was killed in the blast and fifteen people were injured, including ten shoolchildren whose bus was driving by when it was struck by the blast. Three of the injured were in a serious condition.

A bus carrying children of paramilitary soldiers was attacked, resulting in fifteen children being injured, five of them seriously and the rest discharged from hospital on the same day. The bus was escorted by two military vehicles, though neither of those were hit. No one has claimed responsibility, though Balo nationalist groups were active in the area.

Salman Taseer, a high ranking member of the Pakistani's Prime Minister's party and governor of the Punjab province was shot and killed by his bodyguard as he stepped out of his car in Islamabad. It is believed he was assassinated for his opposition to Pakistan's blasphemy law.

A suspected Al Qaeda militant tossed an explosive device at the French Embassay in Mali and the explosive device hit a sentry post. The suspect was injured and arrested by private security after one of them was shot and another received burns from the explosion.

A number of controlled explosions was carried out on a car bomb that was parked near Antrim Road police station in north Belfast. A second bomb was also found next to a shop on the same road that was also made safe. Three phone calls were made about where the car bomb was. Over 50 people were removed from their homes because of the alert. The group called Óglaigh na hÉireann claimed responsibility for the car bomb.

Taliban fighters staged a coordinated assault on several major targets in the capital Kabul. Several militants set up positions inside a shopping center under construction in the city's embassy district. Gunfire and explosions rocked several parts of the city for the better part of the day and continued well into the night. At least 15 people were confirmed killed (including at least 4 policemen) and more than 20 wounded. This is the third major attack in the capital since June and the most sophisticated assault that the Taliban have attempted so far. It is also the longest-lasting insurgent attack on the capital, ending after more than 20 hours of battle.

The deadliest attack of the day occured in the southern parts of Iraq near the city of Hilla when a car bomb exploded in front of a popular local restaurant. Initial reports indicate at least 15 people were instantly killed and more than 30 wounded. Additionally, two policemen were shot dead in Baghdad and another was injured.
