The Department of Computer Science and Engineering came into being in 2006 as a result of renaming of the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology.

The Department of Computer Science and the Department of Information Technology were merged in 2004 and renamed as Department of Computer Science and Information Technology.

The Department of Computer Science was started in July, 1994 under the school of Science and Technology. It was started with the object of promoting specialized knowledge in the field of Computer Science and Computer Application. In view of the world wide shortage of skilled manpower in the field of Information Technology, the Department strives to channelize talented youth of the region to this challenging and knowledge intensive field by imparting quality technical knowledge and skills in the field. The programmes started under this department were Master of Computer Application (MCA), Master of Science (by Research) in Computer Science and PhD in Computer Science. The programmes have been designed keeping in mind the needs of the global Information Technology Industry.

The Department of Information Technology was started in July, 1997 under the school of Science and Technology. The Department was established with the aim to contribute towards research in the field of Information Technology and to fulfill the increasing demand for highly qualified manpower in the field for Industries as well as academic institutions. The programmes started under this department were Master of Technology (M Tech) in Information Technology, and PhD in Information Technology.

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering

The department was started in 1997 as the Department of Electronics under the School of Science and Technology. The department was renamed as Electronics and Communication Engineering under the School of Engineering in 2006. The primary objective of the department is to impart education, training and research at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels in frontline areas of electronics and its derived Engineering and Technology.

The major areas of faculty expertise of the department include Communications, DSP, Biomedical Signal Processing, Bio-Sensors, MEMS, Instrumentation, Image Processing and Computer Vision. The department offers the following degrees: B. Tech. (in Electronics and Communication Engineering), M. Tech. ( in two specializations: Electronics Design & Technology and Bioelectronics) and Ph.D. (in various specialization areas of faculty expertise as mentioned above).

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in 2006 under the School of Engineering for offering B. Tech degree with an annual intake of 52 students. The department has principal objective to cater to the latest need for technical man power in infrastructural sectors of country. The department has also the vision of starting M. Tech. and Ph.D. Programme along with research in various fields of Mechanical Engineering in near future.
