History and origin

According to the traditions of the tribe, they were originally settled along the banks of the Ghaggar river, in what is now Haryana

Present circumstances

According to the Imperial Gazzeteer of India of 1900, the population of Rayeens in district Pilibhit

and Barielly is about 5000 and they were mainly classified as cultivators. Immigration of Rayeens from punjab took place up to late 19th century. Within a short period of fifty years this small community cultivate large area of land and established their own villages. With in short span of time many of them established themselves as big landlords of the area. Mr. Immtyaz ahmad of village khamaria was elected as Member of legislative council in governorship of Sir Nawab Ahmad Said Khan of Chattari in 1933. He was also awarded with a title of Khan Bahadur. Rayeens were known for their hard work. They were considered as sturdy race along with sikh jats, Muslim rajputs in punjab by Britishers. They were able to get allotment of big share of agriculture land just by hard working skills and favours shown on them by British administration. At the time of partition Rayeens were one of the prosperous and educated community of Pilibhit according to their percentage.
