LFCA is responsible for more than 10,000 soldiers : 5,000 in the regular force and 5,500 in the reserves, as well as 1,200 civilian employees.

As one of six regional commands under Canada Command, Joint Task Force Central (JTFC) is responsible for the conduct of all domestic military operations in the province of Ontario. While LFCA still exists as the command structure for land forces units in Ontario, the commander of LFCA is simultaneously the commander of JTFC, and as such has the authority to deploy all naval, army and air force assets based in Ontario in the event of a domestic crisis or threat.
