The Windsor Regiment is a Primary Reserve armoured

. The regiment, which was founded in 1936 as The Essex Regiment (Tank), is based in Windsor, Ontario
. During World War II
, the regiment was designated as the reconnaissance regiment for the 7th Canadian Infantry Division
. In December 1942 the regiment was attached to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Division
and moved overseas to Scotland in July 1943; later becoming Number 1 Canadian Armoured Corp Company, Canadian Equipment Assembly Unit.
On April 6, 1944, the active unit was disbanded and the personnel became reinforcements for other regiments in the European Theater.
