Economic Club of New York
Encyclopedia
The Economic Club of New York (est. 1907) is an American nonprofit and nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to promoting the study and discussion of social, economic and political questions. Founded in 1907, it regularly hosts prestigious guest speakers at its member only dinners and luncheons, which are open to the press, and thereby serves as forum for discussion on a wide range of public issues of interest to business people. Its membership is composed of representatives from the top executive levels of business, industry and finance.

History

Founded in 1907 by J.W. Beatson, Secretary of the National Economic League in Boston, and four business leaders from New York City, the Club's founders sought to follow the example of the Economic Clubs of Boston, Providence, Worcester, Portland, Springfield, and New Haven with the aim of bringing business people and professionals together for serious discussions of economic, social and other public issues in a non-partisan forum.

For over a century, the Club has been a prominent forum in which notable figures from a variety of fields have opined on issues of national and international importance.
