As per local Hindu mythological belief, the name Trikarpur has been derived from "Sree Haripuram" and then "Thiru Karipuram" and later on to the present name. It is also believed that the famous "Gajendra Moksha" which is stated in "Shri Maha Bhagavatham" occurred in Trikarpur (in front of Sree Chakrapani Temple). This story is related to the "Sree Chakrapani Temple" which is believed to have been built by "Lord Parasurama" .Geography
