The group has an annual turnover of 2,926 million euros (2007) and employs an average of 19,587 people. SanomaWSOY was formed in 1999 with the merger of Sanoma Corporation, WSOY (Werner Söderström Osakeyhtiö; Werner Söderström Corporation) and Helsinki Media Company. The group reverted back to the name Sanoma Corporation in October 2008.

The company consists of five divisions:
  • Sanoma Magazines: Magazine publishing and online operations
  • Sanoma News: Newspaper publishing, online operations and printing
  • Sanoma Learning & Literature: Educational publishing, publishing, and business information and services
  • Sanoma Entertainment: TV, broadband internet, and radio
  • Sanoma Trade: Kiosk operations, press distribution, bookstores and entertainment
