Jubany resigned as Archbishop of Barcelona on March 23, 1990, following a period of eighteen years. He lost the right to participate in any future conclaves upon reaching the age of eighty on August 12, 1993.

The Cardinal died in Barcelona, at age 82. He is buried in the cathedral of the same city.
