Public reception of Matthäus has been mixed in Serbia. Despite the fact she has been praised for her beauty and her work in fashion, media has labelled her a "serial bride who built a career on her marriages" and even "illiterate", due to her frequent lapsus linguae. She, however, responded that she "was glad that people laughed to her lapses", "[...] It is good to know that you made someone smile at these hard times". Matthäus has also been criticized for "bragging to much about her life and her wealth".
