May 23. A truck travelling in the wrong direction on an expressway collided head-on with a bus in the country's northeast. The collision occurred on a section of the expressway that was undergoing maintenance in the city of Fuzin in Liaoning province. 32 people were killed and another 21 people were injured and sent to hospital.
July 2. A fuel tanker overturned and exploded, unleashing a fireball that devastated the town of Sange, in South Kivu province. The preliminary death toll placed the number of dead at 220, while another 111 were injured.
