The History

The International Medical University started off as International Medical College (IMC) in April, 1992 and was based in Petaling Jaya

The IMU Clinical School in Seremban

 took in its first cohort of 46 students in September 1999.

In February 2008, the University started the dentistry programme, which gives students an opportunity to either complete the whole degree in Malaysia or in the Partner Dental Schools overseas. Five other programmes: Medical Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Psychology, Nutrition and Dietetics as well as Pharmaceutical Chemistry started in July 2008.

In 2009, the University introduced a new programme: Bachelor of Nursing Science (Hons), a programme targeted solely for registered nurses to upgrade their qualification from diploma level to a degree level. Another undergraduate programme commenced in February 2010 was the chiropractic programme, the first of its kind and the only complete educational programme in Malaysia as well as in all of Southeast Asia

Also, in the same year, the University has gained approval from Malaysian Qualifications Agency

 (MQA) to offer an undergraduate programme in Chinese Medicine. The first cohort of which was officially enrolled in February 2011.

The Campus

IMU's Bukit Jalil campus was the former headquarters of the 1998 Commonwealth Games

, known as Plaza Komanwel. The University bought the building and began operation in the campus when it was given university status in 1999. The campus has recently completed its renovation, which included the building of a new 4-storey annexe block connected to the main building.

Renowned for its Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS)programme, the IMU is to be claimed as the best private medical university in Malaysia. It is one of the top amongst private universities in Malaysia.

In July, 2010, the IMU has opened its own Specialist, Dental and Chiropractic Clinic in the Annexe Block of IMU Bukit Jalil campus.

Student activities

The Malaysia National Sports Complex is just located behind the IMU Bukit Jalil campus; hence the University offers a variety of societies and sports clubs.

Student Accommodation

Vista Komanwel Condominium, which is directly oppsite the IMU, serves as the natural choice of accommodation for IMU students.
