(ZCTA) has a population of about 9,562 as of the 2000 census. The population is about 49% male and 51% female. About 89.6% of the population is white, 8% African-American, 0.2% American Indian, 0.6% Asian, 1.5% Hispanic, and 0.8% of another race. 0.9% of people are two or more races. There are no native Hawaiians or other Pacific islanders.
The average household size is 2.6 people, and the average family has 2.9 people. There are 3,783 houses, with 94.5% of them occupied, 91% bought and 3.5% rented. There are 214 vacant housing units.
as well as the Vienna Elementary School call Pfafftown home. Reagan High School had their first graduating class in 2007 and the school has recently gained notable local fame with their cross country, women's golf and academic teams. Grandview golf course, which was home to the Reagan golf teams, was closed in late 2007 due to the excessive city taxes levied after annexation and was replaced by a housing development.
In addition to schools, the popular C.G. Hill Memorial Park contains a hollow poplar
tree
which was used by Confederate
sympathizers to hide possessions, including not only weapons, but also cows, among other belongings, during the American Civil War
. The tree is also said to have provided shelter to travelers during storms. The park is also home to a well-populated duck pond and fishing and picnic areas.
Another attraction is Old Richmond Grill, an old style restaurant that is frequented by many of Pfafftown's residents and has even been the subject of local newspaper articles.
Pfafftown is home to many other nice, "local" family restaurants where people gather for good food as well as to see and spend time with their Pfafftown neighbors. Southern Family Restaurant and El Maquey Mexican Restaurant are two of the more popular establishments. The Waterway Brewing Company's taproom is a popular gathering spot for many locals and is the largest craft brewery in Pfafftown.
Many citizens in the nearby community of Midway
were facing a similar situation with annexation and thus proceeded with efforts to incorporate
as a separate municipality
, similar to what many Pfafftown citizens tried years prior to the 2004 annexation. Using Pfafftown as an example of a failure, the Midway Incorporation Committee succeeded in gaining permanent autonomy from nearby Winston-Salem with the successful incorporation of the town of Midway in June 2006.
