History

PA 16 was signed in 1928.

From 1925 to 1967, present-day PA 16 from US 522 to the Buchanan Trail/Lincoln Way intersection in McConnellsburg was occupied by Pennsylvania Route 1 (from 1925 to 1930) and its successor, U.S. Route 30 (from 1926 to 1967). In 1967, US 30 was rerouted along a bypass north of town, allowing PA 16 to be extended westward to its present terminus at US 522.
