interview that a very senior Iraqi official had indeed given the CIA information with regards to Iraqi weapons of mass destruction programs. 60 Minutes verified that the source was Sabri.

For a short time before the 2003 invasion, the CIA maintained French-sponsored, third-party contact with Sabri. In exchange for $100,000, Sabri offered the CIA important details on some of Saddam's alleged weapons programs and assurances on the discontinuance of others. Sabri told the CIA that Saddam had stockpiled certain chemical weapons, specifically "poison gas." Sabri also told the CIA that Saddam did not have an active nuclear or biological weapons program. There were people in the CIA that knew this intelligence, but the CIA reports which continued up to Capitol Hill and the White House ignored this information from Sabri. In the lead-up to the invasion, the CIA pressured Sabri to defect to the United States, but Sabri declined. Communication between Sabri and the CIA ceased thereafter.

It has not been clearly established whether Sabri's safe passage to Cairo in the initial days of the invasion was related to his relationship with the CIA. In any case, the US military did not include Sabri in the "deck of cards

In the 2003 invasion of Iraq by a United States-led coalition, the U.S. military developed a set of playing cards to help troops identify the U.S. list of most-wanted Iraqis of President Saddam Hussein's government, mostly high-ranking Baath Party members or members of the Iraqi Revolution Command Council....

September 2006 Senate intelligence panel minority view has corrected Drumheller:
“We can say that there is not a single document related to this case which indicates that the source said Iraq had no WMD programs. On the contrary, all of the information about this case so far indicates that the information from this source was that Iraq did have WMD programs.”

NBC Nightly News quote:
On the issue of chemical weapons, the CIA said Saddam had stockpiled as much as "500 metric tons of chemical warfare agents" and had "renewed" production of deadly agents. Sabri said Iraq had stockpiled weapons and had "poison gas" left over from the first Gulf War. Both Sabri and the agency were wrong.

However, whether Sabri was entirely wrong is unclear. Several small caches of chemical munitions at least 10 years old were found in Iraq between 2004 and 2006.

The Way of The World

In 2008, the book The Way of the World, by Ron Suskind, on pgs 179-182 and thereabouts, has many things to say about Naji Sabri, the CIA, and the reports f WMDS.

Suskind alleges that Naji Sabri communicated with the CIA in 2002 through an intermediary... an unnamed Lebanese journalist 'trusted by both sides'. The CIA agent was Murray, who was based in France, but visited New York to talk to the intermediary, as Sabri had cover to visit the UN at that time so that Saddam wouldn't be too suspicious of him. The book states that 'langey' gave Sabri $200,000, but the book later states that the intermediary ran off with the $200,000. Murray tried to get more money for Sabri, but couldn't. The book also states that the US government tried to get him to defect to the US.

Accusation: Sabri report altered

Suskind alleges that the report on Murrays interaction with Sabri, was not actually written by Murray, instead Murray jetted back to Paris, leaving the NYC CIA station to write the report. Suskid claims that the report then written, was altered 'almost certainly' with pressure 'from washington' to say the opposite of what Murrays initial report had said abuot Sabri... ie, they changed it from saying There are no WMDs to There are WMDs.

Accusation: bad report given to the british, might have prevented war

Suskind also claimes that this altered report was given to the british intelligence, who then gave a report to Tony Blair. He claims that Michael Shipster, a UK intelligence agent, said that if they had known the truth about Sabri's messages, they wouldn't have gone to war.
