Primary Election

On May 17th, 2011, Alison Lundergan Grimes defeated appointed incumbent Elaine Walker to win the Democrat nomination for Secretary of State. Republican Bill Johnson defeated Hilda Legg to win the Republican nomination for Secretary of State by a margin of 51-49%. Legg later called a recanvass to insure results were correct, resulting in the certification of Bill Johnson as the nominee. Grimes will face Johnson in November.
