International Badminton Federation
The International Badminton Federation is the international governing body for the sport of
badminton. Founded in 1934 with just nine member nations , the IBF would soon grow to have many members and achieve international recognition.
The IBF works in cooperation with regional governing bodies,
Asian Badminton Confederation,
European Badminton Union,
Oceania Badminton Confederation,
Pan American Badminton Confederation and Africa Badminton Federation, to promote and develop the sport of badminton around the world.
IBF office now state in
Kuala Lumpur after moved away from
Cheltenham on October 1, 2005 after 70 years history.

IBF Members
There are currently 151 IBF member nations. Geographically, there are 39 from
Asia, 49 from
Europe, 26 from the
Americas, 30 from
Africa, and 7 from
Oceania.
Tournaments
The IBF regularly organizes six major international badminton events:
Two events are no longer held regularly:
- World Cup was suspended since 1997. However, the IBF revived the event in 2005 but only as an invitational tournament. China swept gold in all 5 categories.
- World Grand Prix has been on hiatus since 2000.
Awards
The IBF bestows special honours onto players, umpires, sponsors and other individuals for their achievement in badminton or for their contributions to badminton.
