In 2004, Citrone was sentenced to two years in prison

s. Citrone denied his involvement, indicating that the person responsible was a fellow poker player. Citrone however, refused to go on record and implicate the poker player in question who was a father and a friend. Citrone eventually served approximately twelve months for the offence and was ordered to pay some £370,000 as part of a Confiscation Order ordered in favour of the Crown.

On 12 July 2005, Citrone was adjudged bankrupt, with unsecure debts in excess of £700,000.
