, Grimshaw had a rematch with Mann. Grimshaw was controlled in the stand-up and the top position on the floor by Mann. Towards the end of the fight, Grimshaw attempted a comeback, utilising ground-and-pound offense, though Mann was declared the winner via unanimous decision after three rounds. Grimshaw's record was then 2–3–1, meaning that for the first time, Grimshaw had a negative record.

Following the loss, Grimshaw joined the FX promotion, where he faced Phil Harris. In a result that was regarded as shocking, Grimshaw was able to defeat Harris via punches in just 46 seconds. Harris was able to take Grimshaw down early on, but Grimshaw managed to get to his feet. Grimshaw then threw a right hook which let out a loud crack as it hit. Grimshaw followed it up with more punches, causing the referee to stop the fight, declaring Grimshaw the winner via TKO.

The win was enough to see Grimshaw return to Cage Rage. However, he was out of competition for around five months after numerous opponent withdrawals kept him out of competition. Grimshaw finally got an opponent for the Cage Rage Contenders 9 event in Cristian Binda. Grimshaw had an early understanding of his opponent's tactics, having watched his teammate, Dean Jones, defeat Binda via kimura. Prior to the matchup, Grimshaw said: "I know he's not as submission savvy as he may think he is, and I've got quite a bit of height on him, so I might just bang him out!" His prediction proved partly correct. Grimshaw had to pull guard early in the fight, but worked his way to full mount where he threw multiple punches to force a TKO victory.
