Zaizhen was the Qing Imperial Family's representative at the coronation of Edward VII in 1902. In 1906 he became the Minister of Agriculture and Industry in the reformed Qing government system. Known for his lavish lifestyle and corrupt behaviour, Zaizhen was known for an affair with Tianjin prostitute and singer Yang Cuixi, and was forced to resign in 1907 because of his involvement. He inherited the title Prince Qing from his father Yikuang briefly during the Republican Presidency of Li Yuanhong
