Extending UNIPSIL's mandate for an additional twelve months, it was also tasked with focusing on:

The Sierra Leonean government was urged to combat corruption, promote accountability, good governance reform and development of the private sector

 with assistance from UNIPSIL. Greater efforts were required to enhance the integration and effectiveness of United Nations efforts on the ground and the Secretary-General was requested to report on achievement of benchmarks including the transition of UNIPSIL into a country team. He was asked to report every six months on progress made.

The Council stressed that the government was responsible for peacebuilding, security and the long-term development of the country. Furthermore, it was called upon to promote national unity and reconciliation, while it was praised for recognising the role of women in the prevention of conflicts and peacebuilding.
