Tim Goodman has never married nor had children. He is named in United States District Court documents pursuant to the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, when he assisted his then-lover Diana Lynn in relocating her child to Martha's Vineyard from Cabo San Lucas Mexico, where the child's father lived. The father, Richard Charles Whallon successfully argued the case and the child was returned to Mexico in 2000. The United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit determined that the custody case fell under Mexico's jurisdiction. Goodman remained in the United States with Lynn's 14 year old daughter, fathered by a different man. In 2009, Goodman legally adopted that adult child.
