). Her first cook book The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking was published in 1974, and since then she has written over 100 books and in all sold more than 3 million books. She also runs the largest Indian food web site, and published has a bi-monthly magazine, Cooking & More. He cooking show is broadcast all over South East Asia, India, the Gulf, the United Kingdom and United States of America.

Early life

Born and brought up in Pune

, India, Tarla Dalal married Naveen Dalal c. 1960 and moved to Bombay after her marriage.

Career

She started taking cooking classes from her home in 1966, and this led to the publication of her first cook book, The Pleasures of Vegetarian Cooking in 1974. The book was an instant success and went on to become a classic in cookery books, and sold over 1,50,000 copies. Today, she has authored over 100 books, which have been translated into languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Dutch and Russian. She also conducts cooking classes and published cooking magazines. In 2007 she started her ‘Total Health Series’ cookbooks series.

Her range of ready-to-cook mixes, 'Tarla Dalal Mixes' was acquired by International Bestfoods Ltd (IBL) in 2000.

Family

Dalal and her husband, who died in 2005, had three children. As of 2005 she lived in an apartment on Napean Sea Road in South Mumbai.
