They have lightweight aluminum body, with white and red color painting (before the Sōtetsu trains were aluminum, the EMUs were painted not to rust, but they are clear of painting).

Interior design

Commuter trains commonly use long seats. However, this series adopts cross, transverse seats in two cars in the formation.

Motive system

The motors in this series are based on 8000 series, so they can use the same system.

Motor cars are two cars as one pair. The 9100 car establishes a variable-frequency drive system, and the 9200 car establishes a compressor
