Punaauia is a commune in the suburbs of Papeete in French Polynesia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. Punaauia is located on the island of Tahiti, in the administrative subdivision of the Windward Islands, themselves part of the Society Islands.
Both Geneva (Switzerland) as well as Jerusalem (Israel) have had long-standing cordial relations with Punaauia, which in Geneva is celebrated each year on the 21st of October. However, because of the passage of the comète of Halley, celebrations will be exceptionnally held on saturday/sunday 25/26 October.
