Acquisition of Magma Communications

In early 2004, Primus Canada acquired Ottawa-based Magma Communications Ltd., a small ISP with most of its customers based in Ottawa, Toronto, and surrounding areas. In 2006, Primus Canada then merged Magma's customer databases, services and call centers into its own organization, phasing out the Magma brand as time passes. The Ottawa building, formerly Magma headquarters, then changed all its outdoor signs and identity to the Primus brand.

Bankruptcy of parent company

Primus Canada's parent company, Primus Telecommunications Group, Incorporated, filed for bankruptcy on March 16, 2009. It emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy on July 1, 2009, with the shareholders of the original company suffering a near total loss of their investment. The company now trades under ticker symbol PTGi.
