Ponte de Lima (ˈpõt ðɨ ˈlimɐ) is a town
in Portugal
of 2,800 inhabitants and also a municipality with a total area of 320.3 km² and a total population of 44,667 inhabitants (2006).
The municipality is composed of 51 parishes and is located in the district of Viana do Castelo
. It is named after the long medieval bridge that passes over the Lima river that runs next to the town.
The present Mayor is Vítor Manuel Alves Mendes, elected by the Democratic Social Center. It's the only municipality in Portugal ruled solely by this party.
The municipal holiday is September 20.
