Middleton Cheney is the largest village in South Northamptonshire, England. It is situated between Banbury and Brackley.
Local amenities
The main local amenities in Middleton Cheney are the parish meeting rooms, the village library, situated on the main road, and the doctor's surgery, situated at 4 Horton Road. There is also a veterinary surgery, pharmacy, post office and supermarket. There are three pubs: The Red Lion, The Dolphin and The New Inn. Middleton Cheney is home to very large playing fields and a social club that hosts entertainment all weekend, every weekend.
One of the highlights of the year is the annual Middleton Music Festival, a large rock festival usually held around the second weekend in July.
Churches
In the village there are three churches: a Methodist church, All Saints church (C of E), and New Life community church (Baptist).
The Baptist Church (New Life Community Church) has served the village since the late 16th century, affiliating with the Union of Baptist Churches in 1740.
The Reverend John R. Jeffs was inducted as the minister in September 2003. Rev. Jeffs is a member of a family that has been part of Middleton Cheney life for hundreds of years; many of the Jeffs family still live in and around Middleton Cheney.
The Baptist Church in Middleton Cheney has undergone many changes through the years and is currently seen as a Church embracing modern styles of worship, with the use of guitars, drums and electronic keyboard. Its cafe-style layout allows for a freedom in worship for all ages, with children and adults waving flags in a vibrant celebration of faith. It is family friendly and suitable for young children who are allowed the freedom to participate in worship in a natural, uninhibited way.
The Girls' Brigade, starting in September 2008, is part of the continuing provision for children aged 4 to 11.
Sport
Middleton Cheney has a village cricket club, tennis club, karate club and football club.
Middleton Cheney football club plays its home matches at Astrop Road. There is a thriving junior section of the club with teams from U6 upwards playing in the Witney and District Youth Football League.
Schools
Middleton has two main schools:
- Chenderit, a senior school for students age 11-16 and then a sixth form for 16-18, which is being newly expanded and will open Easter 2009
- MCCPS, the primary school built hundreds of years ago, which provides education for children aged 5-11 and has good links with Chenderit
Nurseries and Preschools
Middleton also hosts Middleton Cheney Pre-School in the Methodist school rooms. It is an excellent early years education service, with a friendly atmosphere and fabulous staff; it has been running for over 20 years.
Also Windmill Nursery offers care for children prior to attending school.
