History

The route was launched in 1982. Its first year was very eventful, with new Leyland Titans

 taking over the route, and an extension from Walthamstow over route 276 to Yardley Lane on 24 September 1982. This made the route into a large U-shape, and was withdrawn on 19 November 1988, resulting in the creation of route 215. The route was one six that passed to Capital Citybus

 upon the breakup of London Forest

s quickly became the mainstay of the 212.

The 212 was converted to single deck operation as a result of new contracts coming into force in February 2000. The frequency was increased from 4 to 6 buses an hour to compensate.

The 212 was then converted back to double deckg and it was run by First Capital.

On 6 March 2010, CT Plus gained the contract for route 212.
