The ancient names for Khonj has always been Hong and konj (corner in Persian) and over time it was changed to Khonj. Khonj agriculture is made of wheat, oat and Dates and khonj has the least amount of rain than any part of province of Fars.

A large industrial slaughterhouse with the capacity of of 3000 chickens per hour is currently being built on the outskirts of khonj .This factory would be the most advanced and the larges of its kind in the fars province.www.khonjfatchicken.com There is also a large dairy products factory(40 tonnes of product per day) under construction in khonj.
Khonj also has a seasonal lake that fills up each winter and is a popular with bird migration

Weather of Khonj is very hot and dry in summer from April till October with Temperature as high as 48C, its winter is from December till middle of March with temperatures from -1C up to 20C.

A large reserve of natural gas has recently been found in khonj. The possibility of a underground volcano has been discovered on december 15 2009 in khonj azadegan sector and is currently being studied by government officials.
