Kumar Aditya Narayan Singh Deo and his father Maharaj Kumar Rudra Pratap Singh Deo appreciated the name change of the district.

Kharsawan is located at 22.8°N 85.83°E. It has an average elevation of 201 metres (659 feet). It was also known as Amda before the 1920s.
