Thailand

Unable to return to China Joan was sent to Central Thailand in 1953 under the auspices of the newly organized CIM/Overseas Missionary Fellowship. She worked in Chainat and Hanka in evangelistic ministry and Bible teaching. Later she worked as an evangelist in the OMF hospital at Nongbua.

Retirement

Joan retired in March 1983 and returned to the UK. She lived briefly in York and then moved to Reigate where she was appointed parish visitor at St Mary’s Church until 1993. Joan visited the Daliang mountains with Jim Broomhall in 1988 and again in 1991. In 1996 she returned to the area again to teach English during a summer school to medical students. In 1998 she was registered as partially sighted due to macular degeneration, but was healed and able to continue her work in China with visits to teach English to primary school children in 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, the last occasion at the age of 89.
