History

Construction on SR 641 is planned in four phases. Phase I was scheduled for completion in late 2008. This phase concentrated on the southernmost segment of the new highway from US 41 north and east to Woodsmall Road. Connecting roadways completed in the phase are open to traffic. Phase II construction started in 2009 with a scheduled completion for 2011. This segment runs from Woodsmall Road to Feree Road. Phases III and IV will complete the freeway. Construction on these two phases is scheduled for 2012–15. The entire project was developed to shorten travel times between US 41 and I-70. This new freeway will reduce travel distance by 3 miles (4.8 km) and bypass eleven stoplights.

The portion of Phase I from US 41 to McDaniel Road opened to traffic on October 26, 2010.
