. It was initially called Herut Yehuda (lit. Freedom of Iudaea
), a name derived from the fact that it was 1,800 years since the Bar Kokhba revolt, the second major rebellion by the Jews of Iudaea Province. In the following years the "Yehuda" part was dropped, leaving the name as just "Herut".
