in 1982. It was one of a group of gallery's that were artist run, and sought to create greater creative freedom in the gallery system. In 1988, this gallery was closed followed shortly by Peter Nagy's move to India. For many years Peter Nagy worked in the arts in India as a consultant. It was not until 1997 that Nature Morte was officially revived in New Delhi.

Gallery Nature Morte in New Delhi was one of the first gallery spaces to be devoted to more experimental Indian contemporary art. It is held responsible for helping promote challenging and experimental forms of art; championing conceptual, photographic, and installation genres within a commercial market that remains fixated on painting. In the gallery's first years it was without a fixed gallery space. Its initial identity in the Indian art world was marked by its international feel and aesthetic. In the years since its conception Nature Morte has grown into one of the most respected galleries in the international art world.

New Delhi

The main gallery space in New Delhi is located at A-1 Neeti Bagh. This space has been the fixed space of the New Delhi gallery since 2003. The gallery's move into the space coincided with the partnering with Bose Pacia Gallery in New York.

Gurgaon

This new space will open in early September 2011 at the Oberoi Gugaon.

Berlin

The Berlin gallery was opened 2008. This gallery in conjunction with Nature Morte's relationship with the New York gallery Bose Pacia has pushed many Nature Morte artists into the larger international art community.

Kolkata

In 2007 and in collaboration with the Bose Pacia Gallery of New York, Nature Morte opened a gallery space in central Calcutta, named Bose Pacia Kolkata. The gallery was closed in 2010 after a fire destroyed the building.

Peter Nagy

Peter Nagy, the gallery's founder, is the gallery's director. He represents the top twenty Indian contemporary artists. Nagy has been referred to as the "poster boy of Indian contemporary art." Much of the gallery's signature flavor and stature is born from Nagy. The Indian artist Subodh Gupta has said of Nagy: "he has fresh eyes and has provided a platform for contemporary artists."
