Trissenaar's father was the Dutchman Frans Trijssenaar. In 1964, she got her first role in the Bern Theatre, after studying at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna. Between 1972 and 1981, she obtained great success at the Frankfurt Opera, especially in the roles of Nora, Hedda Gabler and Medea
