After the European title win Bergman and the Dutch team wrote history when they reached the semi finals for the 2005 World Championships held in their own country. The Dutch eventually finished in fourth position. Bergman won one of his two games and finished with an average of 1.00. In March 2006 he was part of the squad that took part in the 2006 World Baseball Classic
