Awards and decorations of the Russian Federation
Encyclopedia
The award system of the Russian Federation has varied and distinct origins. The first being pre-1917 orders of the Russian Empire
Russian Empire
The Russian Empire was a state that existed from 1721 until the Russian Revolution of 1917. It was the successor to the Tsardom of Russia and the predecessor of the Soviet Union...

re-established after 1991. The second is from former Soviet orders that were slightly modified and kept after the USSR's collapse. We also find many completely new awards resembling Imperial awards in basic design since the reintroduction of Russian heraldry, these are mainly bestowed by ministries and departments that did not previously have their own honour system. The entire of the Russian Federation's Federal Awards system was redrawn on 7 September 2010 by presidential decree № 1099.

Non-Federal Russian Federation Awards can now be found on their own pages.
