Description

This species has dark brownish-grey upperparts, a black mask but has a white throat. The breast is grey while the belly and underside are rufous. It has a slight resemblance to Garrulax gularis of northeastern India which used to be lumped together in some taxonomic treatments.

The ranges are disjunct, however the separation museum specimens of delesserti from gularis may be made from several characters. The lower mandible of delesserti is pale while gularis has an all dark bill. The tail is uniformly coloured and is darker than the back in delesserti while that of gularis is pale with rufous outer tail feathers. The chin is yellow in gularis while white in delesserti.
