Preservation

In October 2008, The Yorkshire Wolds Railway Restoration Project has been formed by a group of enthusiasts with aim to restore at least part of the M&D railway line as a heritage attraction, marking it the only Heritage Railway in East Yorkshire,

Wharram railway station could also be restored as part of the restoration project and reopened as part of the new Heritage Railway line, and could serve as the northern terminus of the YWR.
