 in 1897. After the Second World War, the choir moved from Vyborg to Helsinki because Finland

 had lost the town. There have been many famous composers, leaders and soloists who have worked with Viipurin Lauluveikot. One reason might be that the choir Viipurin Lauluveikot is one of the oldest men's choirs still active in Finland. Viipurin Lauluveikot celebrated their 110-year anniversary in 2007. The honorary protector of the anniversary concert was the former president of Finland Mr Martti Ahtisaari

. Mr. Martti Ahtisaari was born in Vyborg so Karelian culture is close to his heart. He has been seen visiting concerts of Viipurin Lauluveikot several times.

The honorary march of Viipurin Lauluveikot was composed by Jean Sibelius

The choir is very active both in Finland and abroad. It has visited for example England, Japan, Hungary and the USA including many other countries. In September 2009 the choir visited Vilnius, Lithuania because Vilnius was the culture capital of Europe in 2009. One of the traditional concerts is the First Advent Sunday concert in the Johanneksenkirkko church in Helsinki, Finland. The First Advent Sunday concert of the year 2003 was the 50th.

Viipurin Lauluveikot performs every year in the National Independence day flagging ceremony on the sixth of December in Helsinki at Tähtitorninmäki 9.00 a.m. local time. Radio transmission of the event is sent worldwide by Finnish Broadcasting company YLE.
This ceremony is the beginning of the Finnish independence day every year.

Viipurin Lauluveikot has received the appreciation medal of the non-governmental organization Karjalan Liitto (The Karelian union of Finland). The medal of valuation was given to the choir at the annual festival named "Karjalaiset kesäjuhlat" on 13.6.2009 (the annual summer festival for Karelian people in Finland and people who are interested in Karelian culture in Finland). The award was given in recognition for the work in supporting the Karelian culture.
