Naveed Qamar is a senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party
. He currently holds the position of Member Central Executive Committee in the party. He has served as Federal Minister for Finance and Privatisation in 1996, Chairman, Privatisation Commission in 1993, and Provincial Minister Sindh for Information in 1990. He was previously elected MPA, Sindh (1988-1990), MNA (1990-1993), MNA (1993-1996) and MNA (1997-1999).
For a short time, in 1985, Naveed Qamar also served as part of the Computer Science faculty at National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences

Naveed Qamar's maternal grandfather, Syed Miran Muhammad Shah, was the 2nd Speaker of the Sindh Assembly and 1st speaker after Sindh's accession to Pakistan in 1947.
