Since the early 1990s, the construction of industries in Surampalli has provided alternate and better paying employment. Regular transportation to Vijayawada allowed local residents greater freedom of movement, and many left for larger communities to get better employment. However, even today agriculture remains the major source of income for the residents of Surampalli. Purchasing power has increased as a result of real estate development.
