Brooks later met bassist John David Dolinar at work, and he too shared an interest in rock music, coincidently of Oasis

. Dolinar would later join the band, followed by his brother, Tommy Dolinar on drums. The group would perform locally with the name In Between Names.

The newly formed group would release a self-titled EP in 2004, as Shaker.

In March 2005, in the midst of the band questioning its future, percussionist Robbie Butcher was introduced as the band's new drummer.
