RG3 was recoded in January 1995 because of the rise in population in West Reading, and is now RG30 and RG31.

In 2009 the Reading Mail Centre began a phased closure with all incoming mail for RG postcodes now being processed at the Thames Valley Mail Centre in Swindon. The Reading office currently still acts as a delivery office for part of the town but is due to close in 2010 with staff being moved to a new delivery office on an industrial estate nearby.
