In the late 19th century oil and gas was discovered here, bringing considerable prosperity to many of the Townships residents. The major town located in the township is the village of Mt. Morris in eastern Perry Township. Mt. Morris is situated just north of Morgantown

The racial makeup of the township was 99.01% White, 0.12% African American, 0.23% Native American, and 0.64% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.35% of the population.
There were 683 households out of which 28.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% were married couples
living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.9% were non-families. 22.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.91.
In the township the population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.1 males.
