, although it can also be installed as a stand-alone game. It has two types of missions that can be flown, "dogfights" or "cooperative campaign" modes. In either type, you can choose to play as either Allied or Axis forces, and the type of aircraft flown usually depends on the mission picked. There is a mission builder incorporated into the game that lets you design your own and is fairly simple to use and understand.
Pacific Fighters works with a standard joystick but many users actually have flight controls hooked to their PC's including joystick, throttle quadrant, and sometimes rudder pedals. Commonly used ones are the Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick, The Saitek X52 Flight Control System, and the Thrustmaster Cougar FCS. Pacific Fighters also works well with Track IR, a camera mounted system that increases your visual experience by providing head turning motions without using your keyboard.
There are new objects not found in the earlier games, including aircraft carriers (both stationary and moving), concrete hangars and rubber dinghies for downed pilots. The games features aircraft which were used in the Pacific by the air forces of Australia
