Academics

The school follows the CBSE syllabus. The school also has the distinction of being given the Autonomous Status by the CBSE, which is a prestigious honour given to very few schools. The Autonomous Status ensures that the school is free to frame its own curriculum till Class 9 without any interference.

As per the guidelines of CBSE, students are not ranked on their performance, but are graded. The grades are –
Grade Percentage What it means
A1, A2 80% and above Excellent
B1, B2 70% – 80% Good
C1, C2 55% – 70% Fair
D1, D2 35% – 55% Average
E Below 35% Fail

A student who secures 'E' grade in 2 subjects or more in the final exam will not be promoted to the next class. This system exists from Classes 6 to 8. A student who fails in the above mentioned criteria in Classes 9 or 11 has to appear for the re exam in the subjects failed during April so that the student does not lose the Board Exam year.

Internal assessment marks and grades for co curricular activities are also given as per CBSE guidelines. Admission to Class 11 in the school is unique in the sense that it is given on the basis of the overall percentage in Classes 8, 9, and 10. Only a student who secures above 60% in the mentioned criteria is eligible to continue in the senior secondary level in the school.

In Class 10, students appear for the AISSE (All India Secondary School Examination) and in Class 12, students appear for the AISSCE (All India Senior School Certificate Examination), the board exams conducted by the CBSE.

Also apart from core subjects and languages, as per the directives of the CBSE, subjects like Computer Science (till Class 10 it is categorised under Work Experience, from Class 11 onwards it is an elective core subject), Environmental Education and Art are also taught.

Let the light of our alma mater shine on us

Set us free from the shackles of ignorance

Shine on us (2)

Shine let it shine

Fill our school with honour and glory

Blaze spirit blaze

Set our hearts on fire

Flow river flow

Flood our nation with peace and harmony

Help us reach out, reach high and reach beyond!

Lord help us to reach high above us

Keep our feet ever firm on the ground

Lord we come to your mighty presence

From our shadow into your radiance

Shine on us (2)

Lord help us to reach beyond horizons

Show us a vision that's filled with your wisdom

Mirrored here may we shine an endeavour

To glorify the name of NPS forever
