The school was founded by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) in 1900. It moved to its present location in 1912. In August 2006, a student strike

's alleged mishandling of funds. The performance of the school was exemplary in the 1960s through the 1990s. During the 2000s, standards have declined. However, there is currently an effort including alumni to revive the school's former glory.
