History

Initially, Muhammadiyah University of Magelang was a branch of Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta. Afterward, This University grew step by step, then become bigger and could sustain independently, finally split from Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta. Today, 2008–2013, Muhammadiyah University of Magelang is directed and chairmenend by Prof. Dr. Achmadi.

Campus I which is in Magelang City, is known as Tidar Campus (in bahasa: Kampus Tidar). This campus consists of two main wing buildings which function mainly for administrative offices, students offices, research center, library, and process of learning for faculties, such as economic, law, and education.

The campus is popular as Mertoyudan Campus (in bahasa: Kampus Mertoyudan). It is in Magelang Regency, closed to the highway of Magelang-Jogja, designed especially for the process of academic learning for the three faculties: Health, Industrial Engineering and Informatics, and Islamic Studies. Besides that, the campus which consist of three main buildings functions as administrative offices, library, radio station (Unimma FM), Shariah micro bank (BMT Shariah), and mini market.

In 2010, Muhammadiyah University of Magelang has been developing and still undergoing to finish new building which is mainly planned for a rector office, faculties and other facilities, such as class rooms, cafeteria, hall, and park. Developing the new buildings, hopefully, can support the learning environment and academic atmosphere for students.

• Quality Insurance Board: This board functions to insure the university quality in the process of learning and academic activities.
• Center of research and services for society (LP3M): The center is designed for facilitating the researchers in conducting their research, such as research training, funding, and assistance in getting an access to sponsorship from funding partners either from the government or aid foundation.
• Center of Islamic Studies (P3SI): The center is focused on Islamic guidance and counseling for students and university staff. Beside that, the center is responsibility in designing and implementing Islamic curriculum standard of the university.

Scholarship

The university provides a scholarship for students each year. There are many scholarships in Muhammadiyah University of Magelang, such as jarum, Gudang Garam, Super Semar, Muhammadiyah Foundation, Government, and private. The scholarship is given to students due to the academic achievement and economic reason. For academic achievement, for instance, the student get the scholarship when they can show their achievement of grade in the end of each term, then they apply to the university through the fair competition among the students. For the economic reason, the scholarship is given for students who come from vulnerable family.
